A urinary tract infection could involve treatment through acupuncture for pyelonephritis. A type of urinary tract infection, (UTI), pyelonephritis is a kidney infection. It occurs when bacteria infect and grow in the tissue of the kidney. It can infect one or both of your kidneys.

Kidneys will become inflamed due to the infection resulting in scarring and tissue damage. Most kidney infections don’t have any permanent damage. But in severe kidney infection, the damage may cause renal failure. Renal failure is a bacterial infection of the urinary tract.

Some symptoms of UTIs might include:
- Frequent need to urinate
- Painful urination
- An urge to urinate without passing urine
- Cloudy, bloody and/or bad odor in the urine
- Flu-like symptoms
- Low back or abdominal pain

Treatment of pyelonephritis through traditional Chinese medicine is done with acupuncture and herbs. Patent medicines such as Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan are also used to treat kidney infections and diseases. Chinese herbs are often taken in doses of 30 g to 60 g once or twice a day. Acupuncture can be helpful in easing discomfort during infection. Treatment done in a string of sessions will help improve the immune system to thwart frequent infections.

Other preventative steps might include drinking lots of fluids such as cranberry juice, urinating often and before and after sexual intercourse. Acupuncture involves using sharp, thin needles inserted into the body at certain points along a meridian line. Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine, and it’s still in practice in many areas. Traditional Chinese medicine believes the process altars and realigns the body’s energy into healthier patterns. It’s used to treat a large variety of health problems.

The use of acupuncture to treat pyelonephritis can help relieve the burning, painful urination and other pain associated with a kidney infection.
